Booking, Cancellation & Refund Policy

These Terms & Conditions apply to all courses provided by Birbeck Furniture, a business operated by James Birbeck (“Birbeck Furniture”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

Client Cancellations

  • 14 or more days before the course start date: You will receive a full refund, less a £25 administration and payment processing fee.
  • 7 to 13 days before the course start date: You will receive a 50% refund of the total course fee.
  • Less than 7 days before the course start date, or failure to attend: No refund, credit or transfer will be offered, unless required by law or agreed at the sole discretion of Birbeck Furniture.

If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your booking to another person, provided you notify Birbeck Furniture before the course begins.

Course Cancellation by Birbeck Furniture

A minimum of three participants is required for a course to run. If the minimum number of bookings is not reached, or if a late cancellation reduces attendance below three participants, Birbeck Furniture reserves the right to postpone or cancel the course.

Should this occur, you will be notified no later than five days before the scheduled course date, wherever reasonably possible.

If Birbeck Furniture cancels a course, you may choose either:

  • a full refund of all course fees paid; or
  • a transfer to the next available course date.

Birbeck Furniture accepts no liability for travel, accommodation or any other costs incurred as a result of a course being postponed or cancelled.

Health, Safety & Appropriate Clothing

Woodworking involves the use of sharp hand tools, machinery and equipment. Participants must follow all instructions given by the instructor throughout the day.

Suitable clothing must be worn at all times. This includes closed-toe footwear and clothing that is appropriate for a workshop environment. Long hair must be tied back, and loose clothing or jewellry that may present a safety risk must not be worn.

Birbeck Furniture reserves the right to refuse participation or remove any participant from the workshop without refund if their behaviour is considered unsafe, disruptive, or if they fail to follow safety instructions.

Medical Conditions & Fitness to Participate

It is your responsibility to inform Birbeck Furniture before your course of any medical conditions, allergies, injuries or physical limitations that may affect your ability to participate safely.

If you require any reasonable adjustments, please contact us before booking so we can discuss whether the course and workshop environment are suitable for your needs.

Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits Birbeck Furniture’s liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence,  or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

Participants are responsible for taking reasonable care of their personal belongings. Birbeck Furniture accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of personal property brought into the workshop.

Participants are expected to use all tools and equipment in accordance with the instruction provided. Birbeck Furniture will not be responsible for any loss or injury arising from a participant’s failure to follow safety instructions, misuse of tools or equipment, or reckless or negligent behaviour.

Minimum Age

All participants must be 18 years of age or over at the date of the course.

All course materials, handouts, demonstrations, drawings, designs, photographs and digital content remain the intellectual property of Birbeck Furniture unless otherwise stated.

Course materials are provided solely for your personal learning and reference. They must not be copied, reproduced, distributed, published, recorded, or used for commercial purposes, including teaching or delivering similar courses, without the prior written permission of Birbeck Furniture.
